Worked example
Worked example: a Southsea cafe, the Victorious weekend, and the one page that changes the takings
A worked example, labelled as one: we do not yet have a Southsea hospitality client to publish. The cafe is a composite; the plan is what we would do; the figures about the festival are the published ones and the figures about results are expectations, marked as such.
The starting point: a cafe two streets from Southsea Common with forty covers, a Facebook page updated most weeks, a website with a photograph and the opening hours from 2023, and a Google profile that says "hours might differ" on every bank holiday because nobody has confirmed them.

The one page
Victorious weekend at the cafe, on a URL that keeps its history
The heading and the first line
"Breakfast and lunch over the Victorious weekend: open from 7am, two minutes from the Common." The event, the hours and the distance in the first screen, because that is the whole search.
The practical block
The walk from the nearest gate in minutes, where the road closures are (linked to the council's page, not copied), where a car can and cannot be left, and that the bike racks are outside.
What is different that weekend
The takeaway window from six, the shorter menu, the table limit, card only. Honest and specific beats welcoming and vague.
Last year, quoted
Two reviews from last year's weekend that mention the festival, with permission for the names. The page's proof, and the sentence the next searcher types.
The same URL every year
The dates updated each year on the same address, so the page gathers history instead of starting again. A new page each year starts from nothing.
Published by mid July
Six weeks before the bank holiday, when people book trains and rooms and start searching. Published in the week of the festival, it is seen by nobody.
The profile on the weekend
Three settings and one habit
Special hours set for each of the three days, even when they match the normal ones, because an unconfirmed bank holiday shows "hours might differ" on the map and that label sends a family to the next cafe. A post a week in the month before, with the festival named and the breakfast time in it. Photographs from the Saturday up by the Sunday. And the habit: ask for the review on the Sunday evening, when the memory is fresh and the review will say "Victorious" without being asked to.
None of this is an SEO technique in the usual sense. It is the profile saying what the cafe is doing that weekend, in the place the map and the assistants read, six weeks early.
What we would expect, labelled as expectation
First for a search that exists for six weeks a year
Event searches are the one case where a small site can be first within weeks, because the search barely exists outside the window and the national sites do not compete for it. We would expect the page to show for "breakfast near Victorious" and "cafe near Southsea Common festival" in Search Console within three weeks of publishing, to be the cafe the assistants name when asked where to eat near the festival, and to be judged by one number: the weekend's takings against last year's, which the cafe already has. If the page shows and the takings do not move, the page is being found and not chosen, and the fix is the hours or the menu, not the SEO.
The same measurements, on your site
The free audit reads your Search Console the same way
Every figure on this page is from Search Console or a page-by-page crawl, both free to repeat. The audit we run before quoting a Portsmouth business does the same, and you get the numbers whether or not you hire us.
How to read this page
- The cafe is a composite; no Southsea business is named, described or implied.
- The festival attendance figure is the published one for 2026, as recorded on Wikipedia; the results on this page are expectations, labelled as such, not measurements.
- The plan is the one we would run, and the measure is takings against last year's weekend, which the cafe already has on paper.
