Worked example

Worked example: a Gosport marine engineer, one page per job, and the season they went live for

A worked example, labelled as one: we do not yet have a Portsmouth marine client to publish. The engineer is a composite of the marine sites we audited for the marine page on this site; the plan is what we would do; the reference figures are from real accounts elsewhere and marked.

The starting point: a mobile engineer with ten years on the harbour, work that comes from the marina office's contractor list and word of mouth, a one-page site with a phone number and no services named, and a Google profile categorised as a boat repair shop with three reviews.

The pages, in the order they go live

Built against the season, not the calendar

November: engine lay-up and storage

The first page, because it is the first search of the quiet season and the easiest win: winterising, lay-up, which yards, the price per metre.

December: outboard servicing

The makes by name, Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki, Honda, the marinas covered mobile, the turnaround, the reviews that name a make.

January: inboard servicing

Volvo Penta, Yanmar, Beta, the compression test, the impeller, the price range by engine size. Live before the March rush.

February: antifouling and lift-out

The yards worked with, the schedule, what the owner has to book and when. The spring page, indexed before spring.

March: emergency and mobile

Which marinas, how soon in season, what is on the van. The page that earns through the summer.

April: the profile and the reviews

Category corrected, every service listed, the service area set to the marinas, and a review asked for at each job with the boat and the marina named.

What the reference accounts say about the scale

Pages that say something distinct get indexed; profiles that get asked get reviews

The indexing figures come from a trade site in Flintshire we rebuilt in August 2026, where 24 near-identical pages scored 72% similarity and eleven had dropped out of Google; rewritten so each page was about its own thing, the figure fell to 29% and 51 of 52 pages were indexed within five weeks. That account is a garage, not a marine business, and it is quoted for the mechanism: six marine pages that each say something the others do not will be indexed, and six copies will not.

The reviews figure is from a Cheshire garage we run, where asking at the handover and nowhere else took the profile from one review to twenty-one in ten weeks. A marine engineer has the same handover, on the pontoon, with the engine running.

What we would expect, labelled as expectation: the make-and-marina searches on page one within weeks, because almost nobody has written those pages; the head term over the season; and the measure that pays, calls that name a boat, countable from the first month if the engineer writes the boat down. We would publish the Search Console figures here at day 90.

How to read this page

  • The engineer is a composite; no Gosport or Portsmouth marine business is named, described or implied.
  • The order is the one we would run, against the marine season rather than against a launch date.
  • Every reference figure is from a real account elsewhere and is marked on the line where it appears. It is the scale we plan against, not a promise.
